For those of us who don't own a personal Sigma machine or have means of testing silver with great scientific accuracy. What's your main testing method? I of course ping every new coin as a force of habit and weigh the stuff comparing size to what I've already got a, lacking a good pair of calipers, but the real and final test for me is ice. What I personally do is not the ice cube thing, what I find far more satisfying is to just press the coin or bar against a body of ice, my freezer is full of stuff I'm not proud to admit. The way it just eats into the ice aggressively, melting it and at the same time turning freezing cold itself in no time is always good fun and a great way to ascertain that it's actual silver. Nothing else comes close to the effect silver has on ice and if you see it you know. Maybe not the best thing to do to a coin with a lot of numismatic value but for bars and bullion this is the way. Quick and easy and pretty much everyone owns a freezer. But also just something fun about experiencing the special properties of silver. submitted by /u/Left-Yogurtcloset993 [link] [comments]
