U.S. Mint FIFA World Cup 2026 Coins Go on Pre-Order Thursday
The U.S. Mint will open pre-orders on June 4 for seven FIFA World Cup 2026 commemorative products, including proof and uncirculated $5 gold coins, silver dollars and clad half dollars. The gold coin is capped at 100,000 units and contains 0.243 troy ounces of 90% gold; the silver dollar is limited to 500,000 units and contains 0.859 troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver. A three-coin proof set is capped at 10,000 sets, with introductory pricing in place through July 6 and shipping expected to begin July 15. From a metals desk perspective, this is primarily a collector/numismatic release rather than a macro demand signal. The Mintβs pricing matrix means the gold product will be repriced weekly alongside bullion moves, but the offer is tied to commemorative demand and Congress-authorized surcharges rather than wholesale market flow. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said surcharge proceeds will support youth soccer initiatives for military families. Near-term market impact on spot gold and silver should be negligible. The only potential tradeable angle is limited retail absorption of small-quantity metal content, but the mintage caps and commemorative nature make this more relevant for coin dealers and collectors than for LBMA/COMEX price formation.
